Highlights of Skarta’s sustainability in 2024

We specialize in emissions-free industrial-scale solar power projects complemented with energy storage. Our goal is to enable the green transition by producing 800 MWp of solar energy in Finland by the end of 2028. In this way, we will reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, build the transition towards a carbon-neutral society and mitigate climate change. Sustainability is at the core of everything we do, and we do our best to minimize the negative impact of our operations on the environment, nature and communities, both locally and throughout our supply chain.

Skarta monitors sustainability-related indicators annually as part of its ESG reporting. The principles and objectives related to environmental responsibility and good governance are recorded in Skarta’s Code of Conduct and policies (e.g. Environmental policy). The purpose of our social and business policy is to guide our operations, taking into account our impact on social and labour issues, occupational safety and quality, and human rights throughout our supply chain. Below is a summary of the results of the ESG reporting completed at the beginning of the year.

Climate actions

  • We reached the EU Taxonomy alignment with climate change mitigation and participated in EU taxonomy reporting for the first time.
  • Our first solar power plant started production, and we produced a total of 382 MWh renewable energy.

Healthy and safe workplace

  • Zero work related accidents and LTIFR (= Lost Time Incident Frequency Rate) 0 (including own personnel).
  • Over 50 reported safety observations from own personnel during the year, which isin line with our target.
  • The average of the results of the MVR/TR measurements at our construction sites was 96.31 %, which is in line with our target (> 95 %).

Diversity, equity and inclusion

  • Share of women on Skarta’s Board of Directors rose to 20 %, which is closer to our target (30 %).

Strong partnerships

  • We conducted our first partner surveys, according to which 89 % of our partners would recommend us to others and our NPS score was 89.

Accountability and transparency

  • We participated for the first time in GRESB survey and reached 84 points and 5 stars in development assets category and gained 1st position in peer comparison.
  • Sustainability indicators were included in our personnel’s incentive scheme.
"I am particularly proud of how much we have achieved in a short period of time since we decided to invest in sustainability in everything we do and in all areas of sustainability. Sustainability is a necessary part of every business today, and its importance is constantly growing. However, we at Skarta are not satisfied with just meeting the minimum level, but want to be larger than our size in sustainability matters. A good example of our ambition and investments is the excellent GRESB assessment result we received last year - a five-star rating and first place in the peer group."
