Project details

A solar park with a panel capacity of 13 MWp will be built in Callio in Pyhäjärvi. The solar park will be built on the mine’s disused and filled tailings pond. The aim of the project is to create preconditions for harnessing decommissioned mining areas for solar power production more extensively, first in Finland and then in the Nordic countries.

The size of the solar park is extensive. A total of 20,000 solar panels will be installed in the park. The electricity produced by the park is mainly utilised on site. When the underground operations of the Pyhäsalmi mine end, the Callio business area will be developed around the mine, whose operators will utilise the mine’s existing infrastructure and the future solar park.

The investment decision for the project was made in summer 2023 and construction began in April 2024.
